A beauty blog for the makeup lover and savvy consumer

Have my TK Maxx beauty products expired?

Let me preface this entire post with this: yikes.

I noticed a few people on Youtube discussing sites on which you can enter the brand and batch code of a makeup product, and it will tell you the date of that product’s manufacture, and whether or not it has expired. The sites in question are checkcosmetic and checkfresh. I’ve found they don’t always tell you whether or not an item has expired, or the exact date of manufacture, so here’s where you need to use your common sense.

I recently did a brief declutter in which I binned a lot of older products I had, but I realised I still had some purchases from TK Maxx that I used. A lot of people are wary of buying makeup from TK Maxx because they feel the products might be quite old. They may well be right. In hindsight I wish I hadn’t thrown out the worst bits I bought from there for the sake of this experiment, but we’ll just have to make do with products that I like. The following items were bought between November of last year and August of this year.

Covergirl Clump Crusher – Date of Manufacture: 27/09/15

Online it says mascara can last for 3 years, but on this product itself it says to bin it after 6 months. Whoops.

Covergirl lashblast fusion – Date of Manufacture: 20/11/14

Even if I was a strong believer in mascaras lasting 3 years, this one’s time is up anyway. In the bin it goes.

Bliss Fabulips Foaming Lip Cleanser – Date of Manufacture: 20/6/13

This is already almost 4 and a half years old. I have no idea about shelf life of such a product and I’m not going to learn now, this seems too old, binned.

Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara – Date of Manufacture: 5/12/13

*Rinses eyes with Optrex* GET IN THE BIN!

Too Faced Melted Metal Liquified Metallic Lipstick – Date of Manufacture: 2010

*Vomits profusely* Were those lipsticks even around that long ago?! A kinder person would assume it was a glitch, but I’m not kind. Binned.

I guess the moral of the story is don’t ever listen to me ever for any reason at all and most of all, maybe skip the beauty section of TK Maxx unless you have a death wish  one of the aforementioned sites on your phone, ready to go.
